Outspoken Presidential staffer Sam George has beaten incumbent MP for Ningo-Prampram E.T Mensah in the acrimonious parliamentary primary that took place in the constituency today, according to certified results by the Electoral Commission.
The controversial young politician won the polls with 4910 votes representing 63.5% as against the former Sports minister’s 2831 representing representing 36.5% of total votes cast.
In a victory speech, George said: "I'm extremely grateful. I want ET Mensah to accept me as a son and there is no loser. This is victory for NDC and we'll deliver it together for John Mahama. We constitute JM 2016. I'll work with the executives irrespective of whatever happened."
The Ningo-Prampram primary has become the major talking point of the NDC’s nationwide parliamentary and presidential primaries which was organised on Saturday.
The internal poll was marred by chaos on Saturday following allegations of attacks by both camps, forcing the elections to be suspended.
George and his supporters had alleged that the voters' register was flawed accusing Mr. Mensah of manipulating the list on the roll.
In another scuffle today, George and his followers protested the presence of some military officers in the constituency claiming they had been brought there by his opponent to intimidate voters.
