NDC Regional Chairmen call for restraint

Ho, May 17, GNA - Regional Chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to all members of the Party to exercise restraint in their demands on government and state institutions and to respect the various levels of authority within the Party. This was contained in a communiqu=E9 issued at the end of their three= -day conference in Ho on Sunday.

It was under the theme, "Working together in fulfilment of the Better=

Ghana Agenda". "The Conference particularly noted with concern the recent unfavourable youth agitations on the party front and discussed ways of strengthening the Party structures towards addressing such developments." It called on the party leadership at all levels to take advantage of=

government initiatives to empower members of the Party for mobilization. On education the communiqu=E9 said the Conference acknowledges the interventions towards increasing the capitation grant to children in basi= c schools, provision of school textbooks, free school uniforms in deprived communities and the provision of classrooms where classes are conducted under trees. It also acknowledged the formal opening of two public Universities in Ho and Sunyani.

"The Conference notes the efforts of government towards addressing the challenges of providing adequate classroom and dormitory accommodation fo= r students about to gain admission into our Secondary Schools this Septembe= r," the communiqu=E9 said. It noted "with appreciation and pride the wonderful progress made by th= e NDC government towards the fulfilment of its contract as contained in the=

Manifesto document." In a closing address the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Amenowode, said Regional Ministers and Regional Chairmen have no choice but work closely with each other. He said though there could be no absolute agreement between them, Regio= nal Ministers and Regional Chairmen of the Party needed to agree to disagree and support each other

Mr Amenowode said as fathers, the Regional Chairmen would be expecte= d to "reprimand and cane" the Regional Ministers without being overly sever= e. He said the posture of the Regional Chairmen was crucial to ensuring=

peace, unity and success of the Party and government. Mr Amenowode thanked the Volta Regional Executive of the Party for showing understanding towards the challenges facing Political office hold= ers in the region.
