NDC Spirit Still High

Fri, 6 May 2011 Source: Daily Democrat

Any ardent National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporter since 1992 will by this

time recognise the spirit of togetherness and usual euphoria that has always

characterized party programmes and activities at all levels. The spirit of

determination, enthusiasm, display of commitment, the spirit to defend and

protect the ideals and principles, sacrifices and strife by members to be part

and hold the family together.

The rank and file have been faithful and resolute in their conviction to the

founder, Former President Rawlings, President Atta Mills and all in leadership

positions both in opposition and in government.

This unity of purpose, The Daily Democrat has observed, is the common attraction

that holds the great Akatamanso family together and needs to be sustained for

the interest of building a better Ghana. Any attempt by any individual to derail

and erode these cherished virtues for his or her selfish political interest must

be resisted and condemned. The strength of the people is bigger than any single

individual because it is that only factor that can propel the party to victory.

The contest for the mandate of NDC delegates between President John Atta Mills

who is widely acclaimed as a man of humility, honesty and a God fearing man and

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, former First Lady who is an advocate for women

liberation and empowerment, should produce a stronger and united party after the

Sunyani July 8th-10th congress.

An observation by this paper of the launch by the two presidential aspirants on

Wednesday and Thursday concludes that the spirit of supporters and determination

to win the 2012 general elections is non-negotiable.

It is an undeniable fact that members of the party see the contest as a family

affair. Against this backdrop, conscious efforts need to be made to safeguard

acrimonies and vile propaganda during the campaign towards congress.

Pre and post congress environment should not create a platform for political

opponents to take advantage and use it as an arsenal against the party during

campaign.

We on The Daily Democrat believe that the supreme interest of the party should

not be sacrificed on the altar of any individual’s selfish ambition.
