NDC Staff "Unpaid" For 5 Months

Workers at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters have not been paid salaries for the past five months. ''There is nobody to turn to now. It looks as if we are only doing a sacrificial job. Some of us are still working because of our commitment to the party and we have vowed to make democracy flourish in this country'' the Independent newspaper quotes a worker as saying.

The paper discovered from impeccable sources that apart from Dr Botchwey’s monetary support in the run up to the party’s primaries, which invariably threw some lifeline to the party last year, no party chieftain could be bothered about how the workers are paid.

Sleuth investigations conducted at the party’s headquarters revealed that the party had an extraordinary meeting some two weeks ago where the problem of party finances came to the fore.

The meeting, sources say was held in an open and frank manner and was chaired by the party Chairman, Dr Obed Asamoah. The mood at the meeting was one of special plea to the party chairman to use his international negotiation skill to source funding for the party.

But he charged all of them to go out and raise money and not to rely on a single individual. The ''Independent'' says it gathered that all those who attended the meeting are sitting on gold but are refusing to contribute to the party.
