NDC UK & Ireland Women’s Wing offers prayers for a successful Congress

The Women’s Wing of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter during this year’s celebration of the Chapter’s women’s day used the occasion to offer prayers for a successful Congress in Sunyani during this coming weekend.

The celebration which was an annual event on the Chapter’s calendar solely dedicated to women activities was held at the United Reformed Baptist Church Halls in Tottenham, North West London. The event was well attended by a large section of the Party’s membership and Party faithfuls in the United Kingdom, which included Branch women representatives from Milton Keynes, Luton and Liverpool.

Mr Mohammed Latiff offered a Muslim prayer for God’s guidance for a peaceful July Congress. He prayed for peace and unity in the NDC during and after the Congress. Mr Reverend Gilbert Amartey offered a Christian prayer. He called on the NDC membership to have patience and hope that things will change for the better after the July Congress. Rev Amartey prayed for the nation, the leadership and all leading officials in the country.

Madam Hajia Salematu Konte, the 1st deputy women organiser delivered the welcoming address and thanked all those present for turning out in their numbers for the event. She prayed for God’s guidance and protection for our leaders to lead by example and to strive for party unity at all times.

Ms Mary Osabutey, the Women’s Organiser for the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter delivered a speech on women’s rights and democracy in modern times. In her submission the women’s organiser called on the political leadership to pay attention to the significant role women play in society. She pleaded with those in authority to respect the rights of women and to involved them in the decision making process.

The Deputy High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mrs Elizabeth Nicoll was a special guest of honour for the occasion. In a short speech, Mrs Nicoll said she was delighted to have been invited for the occasion. She used the occasion to call for the respect of women’s rights in all spheres of life and hoped more of such events would be held to raise awareness of women plight in society.

Other contributors were Miss Judith Kotia, the women organiser from Milton Keynes and Jacinta Arthur Boadu from Leicester who called for party unity and respect of women’s rights.

The event was jointly moderated by Nana Debra a deputy women’s organiser and Horace Ankrah Chairman of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter. The function passed off successfully with light refreshment for those in attendance.
