NDC Unity Walk bringing disunity – Lecturer

A political science lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) says the recent “unity walk” organized by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to bring disunity in the party.

Dr. Isaac Brako, who was speaking on Sika Fm in Kumasi on Monday signaled the danger ahead of the party’s efforts to unite in order to become a formidable force to reckon with in 2020.

The NDC this year has organized numerous of such exercises both in the North and the Southern part of the country, the most recent took place in the Central Region.

However, many critics have said the walk was made for former President John Dramani Mahama with the motive to bring him back as leader of the party for 2020 general elections.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said John Mahama cannot reclaim power from them because he has lost his credibility over time

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has also described Nana Addo’s government as impossible defeat writing off the possibility of his party NDC to win power in 2020 looking at the various policies being implemented.

Dr Brako, responding to questions as to whether the said unity walk is capable of bringing unity within the NDC, he said otherwise.

He explained that, the walk looks likes a way of rebuilding the image of the former president since other interested people have not shown interest in the exercise.

“He may not be able to achieve that because other people have shown interest in contesting the flagbearership”. He said

According to him, since the walk is aimed at uniting all members, those who have already shown interest in the race should be present at really to tell the world indeed there is unity in the party.

He further noted that, because lots of members of the party have criticized the walk, it would be difficult for anyone to say it will bring unity to them.
