Angry National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth at Kotingli, a village in the Tamale South constituency of the Northern region have destroyed bill boards and posters belonging to the Minister of Communication, Hon Alhaji Haruna Iddrisu, who is also the Member of Parliament for the area.

The youth amidst singing of wars songs destroyed virtually anything belonging to NDC and that of the Tamale South MP within the village last Saturday. They youth charged that the NDC and the Communication Minister have failed them, adding that “Haruna Iddrisu is using us like fools, so we are not going to vote anymore, he thinks we are goats”.

Speaking to the media, the Youth Chairman in the area, Mr. Alhassan Abdulai maintained that the area has been a strong hold of the National Democratic Congress since 1992 and wondered why they have been neglected by the party for all these years. He said the area is facing enormous economic challenges, and that electricity has been their major problem, saying women and children are suffering a lot for lack of electricity.

The NDC Youth Chairman said the Tamale South MP promised the village that he will provide them with electricity and since 2004 up to date nothing have been done to reduce their plight. “Haruna Iddrisu and the NDC party are lying to us, we cannot continue to be used by them”, Abdulai noted.

Mr. Alhassan Abdulai threatened that the youth of the village would not take part in the general elections unless they are provided with electricity and road, saying “no light no vote, if we don’t get the light we will not vote, and any NDC person or Haruna Iddrisu should not step foot here, we don’t need him anymore”.

The NDC Youth chairman posited that they will give their votes this time to the New Patriotic Party, saying that though they have never voted for the NPP, they are always better of in an NPP government.

“We will not only vote for the NPP but will defect to the NPP because it is clear that the NPP party cares for our plight”, he said.

Questioned why they are destroying the party sign boards and posters, the Kotingli NDC Youth Chairman reiterated that they are tired of the NDC and don’t want to have anything do with NDC. “As you can see the whole village is angry with the NDC, we want light or no vote”, he demanded.

The Minister was not available to comment as at press time yesterday.
