Victory 2012

The youth wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has resolved to rally behind President Mills for victory 2012. They made the declaration at a mammoth youth forum held in Accra last Tuesday.

The Event, held at the National Theatre, attracted large sections of the party activists, faithfuls, loyalists and sympathizers.

Dubbed “Energizing The Youth For Victory 2012”,the event is the official declaration of intent by the NDC youth that they are battle- ready to defend the party and protect the ballot box come December 2012.

The forum which saw a massive surge of people flock onto the streets of Accra was perhaps the biggest indication yet that the NDC is poised for action in next year’s general elections.

Several thousands of party supporters formed huge queues along the roads, and for several hours, the streets were gridlocked.

In a brief speech, Vice- President John Dramani Mahama called on supporters not to do double registration in the forthcoming biometric registration exercise, as it has the tendency to deny them the opportunity to vote in 2012.

Several speakers took turn to address the teeming gathering; among them was the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah; Deputy Finance Minister Fifi Kwetey; Minister of Communications Haruna Iddrisu; Deputy Minister of Information Okudzeto Ablakwa; Minister of Education Betty Mould Iddrisu; Deputy Minister of Science and Environment Dr. Omane Boamah and Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Elvis Afriyie Ankrah.

They took their time to explain government policies and achievements under the Better Ghana, and admonished party activists to rally behind the president for victory in next year’s elections.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia told the gathering that, the NDC believes in the biometric voters register but will not buy into any verification process that has been proven not to be 100 per cent efficacious.

The Education Minister affirmed that the government has chalked a lot of success in the education sector, and that according to the World Bank report, Ghana is the fastest- growing economy in the world. She also urged party activists to remain committed to the cause of the party.

On his part, Mr. Fifi Kwetey said that the NPP has plans to intimidate NDC supporters in their (NPP) strongholds, including those in the Ashanti Region.

He told the activist to ignore such moves but ensure that they cast their ballot accordingly.

Dr. Omane Boamah said that the NPP rigged the 2008 elections in Ashanti, and that some constituencies recorded as much as 135% voter turnout; he cautioned that, such reckless abuse of the electoral process will never be allowed to occur again.

In his contribution, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah opined that the NDC administration has not really told Ghanaians what actually was left behind by the NPP and that the Mills- led administration spent considerable amount of time sealing the huge hole and the mess created by the NPP.

He admonished the teeming supporters to be vigilant and protect the interest of the party before and during election 2012.

The master of ceremony was the energetic Spokesperson for the Vice- President, John Jinapor, who captivated the gathering with his vociferous and intermittent shouts of the Party's slogans… EYE ZUUUU!!!!!!.. with spontaneous EYE ZAAAAAA!!!!!! responses from the enthusiastic gathering.
