Kumasi, April 13, GNA - The Zongo Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the use of the Council of Ullamas by some self-seeking individuals as a platform to further aggravate the poor relations existing between Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and President J.A. Kufuor.

It said the Council should rather explore avenues that would help bring about an amicable solution to the impasse instead of resorting to tactics that would further fuel the problem between the two statesmen. This was contained in a statement in reaction to a recent one the Council of Ullamas, Kumasi, released and signed by the Executive secretary of the council, Alhaji Ahmed Seidu.

The council's statement was on utterances Ex-President Rawlings was purported to have made against President Kufuor during the funeral of Dr Adamu Gibiril, the late MP for Asawasi.

Alhaji Othman Yahya, Chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Alaska, Organiser and Alhaji Alhassan Ibrahim, Secretary of the NDC Zongo Caucus signed the NDC statement.

The Zongo caucus denied any verbal attack or insults on the office or personality of President Kufuor by Ex-President Rawlings during the funeral of the MP.

"We wish to categorically state that nowhere at the funeral did Ex-President Rawlings attack President Kufuor", the statement said. The NDC Zongo Caucus said it was unfortunate that the Executive Secretary of the Council of Ullamas was trying to drag the name of the council, a highly respected religious body in the country, into politics for his own personal gains.
