Alhaji Mohammed Kassim, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Gomoa West Constituency of the Central Region, has been detained by police at the Bakaano Police Station in Cape Coast.

His arrest follows a clash between members of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the unveiling of the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment on Monday, September 16, 2024.

According to information gathered by Class 91.3 FM's Nana Tawiah, Alhaji Kassim was apprehended at Apam Junction on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, by the Central Regional Police Command after receiving a tip-off.

The arrest came in response to an incident where the NDC Chairman, along with the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Mr. Richard Gyan Mensah, and several NDC supporters, allegedly disrupted the official ceremony of the DRIP project.

The interruption reportedly occurred at the Gomoa West District Assembly as the NDC supporters stormed the venue to protest, leading to tensions between the two major political parties.

Alhaji Kassim is currently in police custody, with investigations ongoing.
