Accra, May 11, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday congratulated the Labour Party of the UK for its electoral victory last week that gave Prime Minister Tony Blair a third term. "In Africa in particular, Blair's re-election gives us hope for the fulfilment of his new policy initiatives on Africa, which are geared towards reducing poverty through good governance and the curtailment of corruption," the NDC said in a statement signed by its chairman Dr Obed Asamoah.

The NDC expressed the hope that the Labour party under the leadership of Mr Blair would "assiduously pursue to the full these policy objectives so as to bring relief to a Continent, which has borne the brunt of misrule and incompetent regimes".

The NDC also expressed the belief that Mr Blair's new policy initiatives on Africa would be given further boost if his Administration could put in place mechanisms, which would strengthen and build capacities of parties in opposition in Africa as well as foster closer links with these parties to ensure good governance in their respective countries.
