The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is considering going for early congress to elect new national executives that will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The proposed early congress, Kasapafmonline.com understands, is to enable the new leadership of the umbrella family have ample time to settle down and come up with strategies that will help them recapture power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The NDC performed fairly woefully in the just ended presidential and parliamentary polls with their party faithful accusing their leadership of letting them down.

In the Presidential poll, incumbent President John Dramani who represented the NDC, polled 4,713,277, representing 44.43% to surrender power to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who polled 5,716,026, representing 53.85% of the total valid votes cast.

Ever since the Electoral Commissioner, Charlotte Osei pronounced Nana Akufo-Addo, the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, some party stalwarts have taken to the airwaves to launch verbal attacks on people they suspect were behind the party’s defeat.

Inside sources say the party alarmed by the frustrations being expressed by their aggrieved members in public, may be forced to go for an early congress where a new leadership of the party formed.

The party is expected to hold its National Congress in 2018, a year after the swearing in of the incoming President.

But highly placed sources say the stalwarts are considering an early congress in 2017 since 2018 will be too long a time considering their quest to recapture power from the NPP.

Article 21 of the Constitution of the NDC states that

“There shall be a Congress of the Party to be held once every four years as the National Congress which shall be the highest decision making body of the Party.

“The National Congress shall be convened by the General Secretary acting on the direction of the National Executive Committee stating the date and venue.”

This website is reliably informed that the thought of an early congress is gaining some momentum with a lot of party stalwarts buying into the idea.
