The Governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region has denied media reports that the party has shortlisted some candidates for the position of the Chief Executive Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) following the resignation of Kojo Bonso, former KMA boss.

On Wednesday July 20, there were reports in a section of the Ghanaian media that there are seemingly intensive lobbying and chess games among members of the NDC for the position.

But a statement released by Samed Akalilu, Ashanti Regional Communication Officer said: “We have seen, a news item under the above headline (THE SCRAMBLE FOR KMA JOB) making round several news portals since this morning. Our office has subsequently, been inundated with calls by journalists and even party members in attempts to know the veracity or otherwise of this publication.

“Quite surprisingly, the report claims that the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee of the NDC has shortlisted some persons for onward consideration by the President for the KMA post.”

The statement added: “We wish to state unequivocally, that the regional executive body has not pencilled down any names as being speculated. For the avoidance of doubt, we are minded of the fact that a decision to fill such an important position is overtly codified in the 1992 constitution among other laws. His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama has the sole responsibility to appoint or disappoint such high profile officials.

“We are, by this statement, urging all to ignore such publications as done today since they are part of a sinister motive to cause confusion within the peaceful NDC. We reiterate our sacrosanct resolve to winning the One Million Votes in this year's elections.
