Founding members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region have expressed gratitude to former President Jerry John Rawlings for attending the party’s special congress in Kumasi.
Mr. Kofi Mintah, the Spokesperson for the group, told the GNA that the founder’s appearance at the congress and the huge ovation he received showed that there was hope for the NDC in the December election.
He appealed to the former President to forget differences he had with the leadership of the party and continue to play the roles he played in the past and urged the NDC leadership to heed the advice former President Rawlings gave at the congress to ensure unity in the party.
Mr. Mintah urged the leadership to recognise the founding members of the party as “the fathers of the party” who sacrificed to form the party at the time people feared to identify themselves with the NDC and said they should be involved in the party’s programmes.
He said the founding members should involve themselves in the campaign in the run-up to the December 7 general elections to enable the party to win the election at the first round.
The founding members congratulated President John Dramani Mahama on his overwhelming endorsement as the flag bearer and appealed to him to use his massive support to foster unity in the party.
