Accra, Dec. 15, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority in Parliament has pledged its support for the GCNet programme to enhance revenue collection and promote Ghana as the preferred destination for business.

Addressing reporters at Parliament on behalf of the Minority, Mr Dan Abodakpi, NDC-Keta, said the GCNet programme which was initiated by NDC administration, was a policing mechanism that would ensure transparency in Customs and related activities and enhance revenue collection.

He said the NDC supported the programme because it would ensure a system that would remove abuses associated with financial trade transactions, as well as Customs and clearance procedures. He said it would also provide trade statistics and help revenue institutions better serve the country.

Mr Abodakpi, therefore, urged all stakeholders to be committed and support the operationalisation of programme. Under the GCNet, all paper-based permits, license and exemptions would be done electronically.

Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Finance Minister, in his 2007 budget to Parliament, said the Customs, Excise and Preventive Service, (CEPS) would commence electronic transmission of permits, licenses and other authorization via the GCNET.
