Deputy Minority Leader of Parliament Dominic Nitiwul says the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) government is not likely to meet its 2013 targets as a result of failure to submit bills to Parliament to be dealt with on time.
“We know government has planned to bring a lot of things to Parliament. One of it is the overhaul of our financial regulations. Six months down the line, government has not brought anything yet to Parliament and so it is making our work very difficult.
“So, we are not doing anything. We close very early because there is nothing on the table for us to do,” the Member of Parliament for Bimbilla Constituency told TV3 News.
He observed that government has already captured all the financial policies in the 2013 budget, but none of them has been tabled for debate six months into the year.
He emphasized that the situation is disturbing since “government will not be able to achieve its financial target”.
“So there will not be money to do all the roads we are looking for because government has not brought it to Parliament,” he stressed.
Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Dr Benjamin Kumbuor was, however, hopeful Parliament will complete its work before it next rises.
He said the seeming slow pace of work is as a result of changes in some policy positions “and [they have] to be reworked and so they are still going through the approval processes”.
“Unfortunately, that process is taking a longer time because most ministries had been re-aligned,” the MP pointed out.
