The Eastern Regional Tertiary Education and Institutional Network (TEIN) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Monday stated that the party has chalked unprecedented achievements in the Eastern Region within three and half years.
At a news conference held in Koforidua in conjunction with the Regional Communication Team, they denied assertions by the regional youth organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the NDC had deliberately neglected the area.
Mr. Richard Nyarko, a member of the Communication Team, who addressed the press, said it was crystal clear that the allegation by the NPP was to create wrongful impressions and to distort the truth.
“Over the last three years, we have observed the frantic efforts by the NPP to create the impression that the NDC has failed to live up to expectation”.
He said the region had over the last three and half years been far better with the NDC than the eight-year rule of the NPP.
Mr. Nyarko mentioned some of the achievements of the NDC to include that of education, roads, transport, commerce, water and sanitation and health.
On education, he said within three and half years, the NDC government had completed the construction of 1, 326 new six unit classroom blocks in the whole country as against 346 constructed by the NPP within their two- term mandate.
“Out of the 1,326 new six unit classroom, 277 were constructed in the eastern region, which is almost equal to the 346 constructed in eight years for the whole country by the NPP”.
Mr Nyarko indicated that the NDC had constructed 142 new three-unit classroom blocks in the region within three and half years, while the NPP was able to provide only 236 three unit classroom blocks for the whole country within their eight year rule.
He mentioned others as the construction of 142 new three-unit classroom blocks in the region within a span of three years.
Mr. Nyarko also said that the NDC government had succeeded in the construction of five 12 unit classroom blocks in a matter of three and half years in the region.
“It has also built many ICT centres in many of the schools in the region to enable the students to have conducive environment for the study of ICT”. Mr. Nyarko indicated that the only thing that the NPP in the region could be remembered for was uncompleted projects, unfinished jobs and unfulfilled promises.
He said for example, the NPP started constructing a small computer laboratory at the Koforidua Senior High Technical School that never reached the lintel level in their eight years in office.
Mr Nyarko said the NPP left the project uncompleted but in the same school, the NDC government within three years had constructed an ultra modern 12-unit classroom block, completed in a record time of six months.
“It has also refurbished the science laboratory and is constructing a mighty dormitory block for the students”.
