Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin claims that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership hired thugs and armed them with guns, machetes, and other offensive weapons to target MPs and other New Patriotic Party (NPP) members.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, he warned the NDC not to do so because the same thugs they had unleashed on the NPP and its leaders would turn on them.
He urged the NDC to exercise caution, or they would regret engaging and arming people to attack their opponents.
‘’I have one message for the NDC. I am not a prophet. I am not a seer. I am an ordinary Ghanaian with my naked eyes. I tell them this: Tomorrow, these young men that you are arming to attack NPP will turn on you. NDC should take this from me. Today, I am not being prophetic. I am not a seer, but I can assure you, the NDC leaders, that these young men that you are unleashing on the NPP, I give you a maximum of one year before they will turn on you. The guns you have bought for them. The machetes, they will chase you with the same machetes because you will not be able to satisfy them.
If you ask them to go and kill for you to go to parliament, if you ask them to inflict machete wounds on an innocent person, bear in mind that you are going to pay and pay. You can’t finish paying them. They will chase you in parliament, they will chase you at the ministries, they will blackmail you, and we would all be in this country. I am not being prophetic, but it is going to happen.
The Effutu MP stated that this was not the first time a political party had lost an election, but the NDC must stop harassing and intimidating the NPP and its members.
He then urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to call his party members to order and put an end to the killings.
‘’Let the violence stop. This is hashtag the violence must stop. President-elect John Dramani Mahama, call your boys to order. President John Dramani Mahama, Stop the killing,’’ he concluded.
