NDC is afraid of free SHS- Ablekumah North MP

The Ablekuma North Member of Parliament (MP) says the noise the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is making about the proposed free Senior High School (SHS) policy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is out of fear.

Mr Justice Joe Appiah told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra that the NDC campaign team is making all kinds of excuses to rubbish the free SHS policy because they are horrified by it.

The NPP MP, who is seeking re-election said the NDC is fully aware that the NPP under its Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, could implement the policy.

He claimed that the ruling NDC has therefore decided to resort to lies and propaganda to confuse the minds of Ghanaians, majority of whom are suffering due to very hard economic conditions created under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

Mr Joe Appiah noted that a lot of Ghanaians have seen through the propaganda of the NDC and are determined to show the party the exit on December 7.

He said the electorate are fed with the NDC and would vote against them in a very decisive manner.

He said although the NDC claims to be a social democratic party they have not been able to implement significant social interventions to alleviate the plight of suffering Ghanaians.

Mr Joe Appiah said under former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration he successfully introduced and implemented the National Health Insurance Scheme which the NDC at that time opposed, saying it was not possible.

Mr Kufuor also rolled out free maternal care, National Youth Employment Programme , the Capitation Grant, National School Feeding Programme, Metro Mass Transit and Community Police scheme.

Mr Joe Appiah said these were clear cut social interventions, which brought relief to Ghanaians.

He said under the NPP government the Cedi competed strongly against the Dollar and other major currencies, unlike the current situation where the Cedi had slumped to an all-time low record under the watch of President Mahama who until the unfortunate demise of President John Evans Atta Mills, was the Vice President and Head of the Economic Management Team whilst the current Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, was the Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

Mr Joe Appiah appealed to his constituents to renew his mandate due to the numerous development projects he had undertaken during his first term in office.
