Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, on Tuesday said the National Democratic Congress believed in the advancement of people, and so would do everything to bring needed change and development to people at the grassroots.
Mr. Arthur said to do this, required a team of experienced people who understood the needs and aspirations of the people to forge ahead the needed development.
The Vice President made these statements at Tongo in the Talensi District where he and his entourage paid a courtesy call on the Tongo Rana, His Royalty Naba Robert Nachinnab Monsore Doameng at his palace.
The Vice President made the call in the company of the Vice Party Chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Youth Organizer, Mr Kofi Adams, Alhaji Mohammed Limuna Muniru and Mr James Zuugah Tiigah Upper East Regional Minister and his deputy respectively, the Northern Regional NDC Chairman, and some elders of the party.
Mr Arthur told the chief that the visit was to congratulate him on his ascension to the royal throne, and also to introduce to him and elders, Mr BabaTongo Baba, the NDC Parliamentary aspirant selected to contest the Talensi Constituency bye- election.
He said the NDC had a proven record of bringing change in the area, and was poised to wrestle the seat from NPP in the constituency.
Mr Baba asked for the blessings of the King and his elders to be given the nod, to continue with the developmental plans of the district.
He said he had the expertise and therefore would bring his long service and exposure to bear on improving lives in the area.
Mr Baba mentioned as part of his plan to institute a Talensi Development Fund that would improve health delivery, improve education and sports development in the constituency laying emphasis on women and the youth.
Tongo Rana Mosore showed appreciation for the visit, and said the development of the district was his and called on any one who won to ensure the interest of the district was paramount, “you are all my people and anyone who wins is a son of the land and who have to work and bring development where I left off as a member of Parliament for the constituency”. The Tongo Rana stressed.
He called on all to refrain from any violent acts that would mar the election.
The Vice President and his entourage also paid courtesy calls on the Winkongo and Sheaga chiefs.
He addressed a rally of party supporters, calling on all to vote massively for the NDC to win the July 7 bye-election.
