NDC is merely criticizing -Gov't

...mischievous desire to undermine gov't
The government has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what it terms its increasing tendency to devalue the role of an opposition party to the level of merely seeking to criticise.

The NDC, "without the necessary checks required of any responsible opposition party under the circumstances, reveals a dangerous trend to dark days of destructive criticism of government in the mischievous desire to undermine it, instead of the acceptable norm of holding it accountable to the people and criticising constructively to build a better Ghana."

The government was reacting to the NDC's criticism of President John Agyekum Kufuor and Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama for allegedly failing to vote in last Tuesday's District Level Elections. A statement signed by Information Minister, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey said the Vice President did not vote because there was no election in the Yendi constituency where he exercises his franchise on account of the state of emergency prevailing there.

"The President at the time of the exercise was away canvassing investment in the interest of Ghana to improve the living conditions of the people. As fate decided, voting was postponed in the West Ayawaso Wuogon Constituency, where President Kufuor is a registered voter, thus hopefully, he would exercise his franchise when voting takes place at the time the EC decides".

The statement also expressed government’s dissatisfaction with sections of the media, which carried the statement and made comments on it without carrying out their own investigations.
