Abraham Amaliba is the Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress
Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority, Abraham Amaliba, has refuted claims that NDC lawyers are brokering deals for former New Patriotic Party (NPP) appointees facing corruption charges.
Speaking in response to reports that stemmed from remarks made by NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, at a meeting of NDC lawyers in Kumasi, Amaliba said the comments were taken out of context.
“The General Secretary’s comments at the Kumasi meeting of the NDC lawyers was not to say that there were NDC lawyers cutting deals. What I’m aware is that, as a lawyer, anybody can come for your services, and you may choose to represent the person or not,” he explained.
GBA has become a toothless bulldog, biased towards NDC – Amaliba
According to myjoyonline.com report on October 23, 2025, he clarified that any NDC lawyer representing a former NPP appointee is simply carrying out professional duties and not engaging in any form of political negotiation.
“If an NDC lawyer appears in one of these cases, you may think he’s there to cut deals, but he’s there working as a lawyer simplicita, ensuring that his client gets justice,” he said.
Amaliba, however, advised NDC lawyers who hold positions in government to exercise caution when handling politically charged cases, as public perception could easily be misconstrued.
“If you are part of this government and you know that it has declared a war against corruption involving former appointees, you may have to think twice before taking up such cases,” he cautioned.
He disclosed that the matter had been thoroughly discussed among NDC lawyers, with most members agreeing that it would be prudent for party-affiliated lawyers to steer clear of such sensitive cases.
“Overwhelmingly, we were of the view that many lawyers belonging to the NDC should avoid taking up those cases, even though it is within their professional right,” he noted.
Asked whether he would personally defend any former NPP appointee, Amaliba said he would consider the political and ethical implications before deciding.
“You may say that’s where you earn your living, but again, you have to think about the larger interest of the party,” he said.

He admitted that the situation poses a complex dilemma for NDC lawyers.
“It’s a dicey thing. It’s a chicken and egg situation. Lawyers will do their work not as NDC lawyers but as professionals, yet the General Secretary may view their actions through a political lens,” he indicated.
