NDC losing love of the people - Kofi Adams

The Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Kofi Adams who is contesting Yaw Boateng Gyan, the incumbent National Organiser for his position has warned that the ruling party is losing the "natural love" of Ghanaians.

"It looks as if today's National Democratic Congress (NDC) is losing its usual natural love that woos Ghanaians towards it; serious steps needs to be taken immediately to rescue that", Kofi Adams told The Republic Newspaper on the sidelines of his vetting process in Accra earlier this week.

He said the party needs more vibrant people to reinvigorate what he has described as a natural love Ghanaians use to have for the NDC.

The deputy General Secretary of the NDC told this paper that when it comes to understanding the workings of the party to achieve this affection from the voting populace, he is well informed and better placed than his competitor, Yaw Boateng Gyan.

"People saw that vacuum was being created, and grounds left uncovered and so created groups to fill those spaces; hence, various groups like youth for Mahama, ladies for Mahama, Zongo for Mahama and many others were created to be able to occupy various spaces that lack of pragmatic strategies had created," he said.

"?in 2016, we need to cover every space, the ground must be covered, the air must be covered, the seas must also be covered, spaces available for political campaigning must be covered, that is what Kofi Adams is bringing on board", he stated.

Kofi Adams, who doubles as a spokesperson for the former President Jerry John Rawlings, has served the party in various executive capacities in the branch, constituency, regional and the national levels of the party.

"The people in the party appreciated what I did for the party, and therefore, I understand the party far better than those who just took up position after serving only just a constituency or region, etc", said Mr. Adams.

Mr. Adams' campaign is facing difficulties following accusations that he may not be completely loyal to the party following the rile he played to support the former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings in her attempt to prevent the then incumbent John Evans Atta Mills from running for a second term in office as President.

Kofi Adams was allegedly captured on tape conferring with Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko- a kingpin in the main opposition New Patriotic Party-, on how to unseat the late President Mills. The embattled Kofi Adams was briefly suspended from the party but was later reinstated when conclusive evidence was not available to nail him.

Mr. Adams has maintained that the accusations against him were false, saying his predicament prevented him from serving the party as he wished, "As a result of that, I was denied an opportunity to represent the people of Buem on the ticket of the NDC, but I did not stand as an independent candidate, if had stood I could have won, but I didn't because I feel that will be a total betrayal of my party", he lamented.

"When ultimately the candidate I supported, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, left the party in 2011, to launch her own party, I came out clearly, and said look, I cannot leave the NDC, I will continue to be in the NDC, and the person to get my vote is John Dramani Mahama, and all the NDC candidates across", he explained.

"I did not abandon my party at that point; I went round the country to campaign extensively for this party in places that many other party executives did not even show their faces", added Adams. "So, on what basis will anybody seek to suggest that Kofi is not loyal, is it on the basis of alleged fake tape, No", he explained.

Kofi Adam is said to be in for a tough battle with Yaw Gyan who is also believed to be highly influential in the party, but he remains optimistic.

"I do not believe in attacking my contender, or rely on his weakness, but I always focus on my strength and how to win the election to redeem the national organizer position for the youth of the party", Kofi Adams stated.
