NDC made 33 health promises yet captured only 6 in the 2025 Budget - Abuakwa South MP

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of not prioritising the health needs of the ordinary Ghanaian.

According to the Abuakwa South legislator, the NDC, prior to the 2024 Election, pledged to improve health by making 33 promises, yet only 6 were captured in the 2025 budget.

The MP, contributing to the 2025 Budget on the floor of Parliament, argued that 27 promises made by the NDC were not captured in the budget, a situation he believes will affect the health of the nation.

The MP, however, cautioned the government against playing politics with the health sector.

“Mr. Speaker, out of the 33 policy health interventions promised by the NDC in their 2024 manifesto, only 6 were captured in the 2025 Budget. This means that 27 promises were not captured in the budget, representing 81.82% proposals which were not captured. We can’t play politics with our health. The allocations made to the health area shows that NDC does not prioritise the health of the Ghanaian,” he stated.

The MP further observed that in spite of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NDC failed to make any allocation to cater for any such emergencies.

In his view, the current John Dramani Mahama-led administration has less regard for public health and the overall health needs of the citizenry.

“Public health emergencies and pandemics should be of concern to us, judging from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, yet the NDC never made any provision yet in the national budget. We must learn from the bitter lessons from COVID,” he added.

Dr Kingsley Agyemang, however, appealed to the government to amend the budget and make more allocations to cater for the health needs of the citizenry.
