Alhaji Ibrahim Ali, alias Dan Baba has called on National Democratic Congress members to stop the internal threats of deaths and assaults as that would not augur well for their 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary campaigns.

“We are all Ghanaians and have the right to support one candidate or the other and it is therefore unfair for supporters of particular candidates to issue threats with unidentifiable numbers to others with different choices,” he added.

Alhaji Ali who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra after allegedly receiving threats from ‘his internal opponents’ said he would continue to be a staunch member of the NDC, but would not allow a few people to take the laws into their own hands to derail the onward march of others.

He said he started receiving death threats from unknown assailants with private numbers as soon as he declared his support for Mr Alban Bagbin as the NDC 2020 Presidential candidate at the beginning of the week.

The NDC Asawase constituency stalwart said he had since reported the consistent threats to the Asawase Police station and they had begun investigations. He said some people within the NDC had on several occasions threatened him and believed it was unfair for them to gag him after declaring his support to his preferred candidate for the 2020 elections.

Dan Baba who has become distraught from the incessancy of the threats checked into the Asawase Police station on Wednesday to officially report that his life was in danger

He said the Nadowli Kaleo MP’s promise of a party-centric administration which would make the NDC and its executives central to any policies that he would take as leader, was steadily gathering support among party executives.

He said he openly campaigned for Mr Bagbin as trustworthy, resourceful and supportive leader who brought fresh breathe to the Health sector, when he was made the Health Minister, a situation that incurred the wrath of his assailants. He had also called on his fellow party executives to learn from the abandonment they suffered under Mahama and vote for Bagbin to lead the party.

When the GNA contacted the Asawase Police station for their side of the story, it was confirmed that Alhaji Ali had reported the threats to them.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that they had received such a complaint, but could not give any details as it was under investigations.
