Mr Chris Addy-Nayo, a member of the National Democratic Congress in the Buem Constituency has called on Ghanaians to prioritize the education of their children as a fundamental right under the country’s social democratic values.

Mr Addy-Nayo, speaking at a meeting in Sunyani with NDC Constituency Members, explained that neglecting the education of children posed not only a threat for the social and economic values of society but also undermined the NDC’s party’s value, which guarantees the right of every child to education.

The meeting was in response to the Kwesi Botchwey Report, following the defeat of the NDC at the 2016 election, where one of the main recommendations was for the Party to restore the capacity and effectiveness of the various organs, especially at the grass root level, which connects directly to the people.

Mr Addy-Nayo said “the NDC is embarking on rebuilding its grass root base to make it stronger and also as a foundation towards winning the trust of the electorate and help rebuild the country based on its Social Democratic credentials, and that, it was reconnecting itself to the social democratic roots, especially with rural communities and its principal actors, including the Youth and women.

He said the current situation, where the youth in communities leave school without any basic skills and vocation creates a growing army of disaffected youth, which has dire implications for the social cohesiveness of the country.

He said there lots of job creation on areas such as small-scale

industries, forestry, environment, agriculture and fishing in the Brong Ahafo region, which are capable of creating sustainable jobs for the teeming youth in the communities.

He said, however that, for these to come to fruition, it requires a well-trained and skilled Youth, supported by the right education and vocational skills.

Mr Addy-Nayo called on the people of Sunyani to specifically protect their environment, forests and river bodies to ensure a clean and healthy environment, since a healthy environment guarantees a healthy people contributing to the social and economic development of their communities.
