Dr. Sekou Nkrumah has admonished the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to go back to its roots and find a stronger and dynamic leader who can lead Ghana in the right direction.

According to him, only President Rawlings tried doing things right, but faltered along the way.

He said both Presidents Mills and Mahama lack the leadership qualities and did not qualify to govern the country.

Sekou Nkrumah, however, commended President Mahama for the decision to reduce electricity tariffs by 25 per cent.

The outspoken son of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah also added that the move by the president gives hints of some element of commitment towards addressing the concerns of Ghanaians.

But added that he doesn’t think it completely shows that the president is capable of fixing the economic challenges of the country unless he does things differently by taking difficult decisions.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah told Moro Awudu on the XYZ Breakfast show that Ghana’s problem has always been that of leadership which ought to change.

“I have a clear mind of what good leadership in Ghana is and I have said it a million times…the oil, the gold and so on is not benefitting us and that has to change…and we need a leadership that could change that” Dr. Nkrumah said.

He added: “I thought Prof. [Mills] could do that but he wasn’t cut for it and Mahama is not cut for it. That is why I am saying NDC must go back to its roots and find that leadership…Rawlings tried between 1981 to 1983 and then there a sharp U-turn.

“NDC should be capable of bringing that leadership that can best address those problems”.
