Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party [NPP], Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress [NDC] of doing everything possible within their means to denigrate the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Jean Mensa.

To him, the recent attempt by the NDC to demonstrate against the EC as “senselessness borne out of lawlessness.”

“The NDC is only interested in spreading scandalous falsehood about the EC and its operations,” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.

The Ashanti Regional chapter of the NDC had earlier said in a statement that it will go on a protest dubbed “Ye Npene/Baa Mu Yada march on June 3, 2019 in opposition to the intended district based online registration of voters by the Electoral Commission.

The decision by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to demonstrate against the Electoral Commission (EC) over a purported district based online registration of voters is in doubt after a High Court ordered the opposition party to stop the protest.

The Ashanti Regional police command, which was expected to provide security for the protest march, however, secured a court injunction restraining the NDC from the exercise after pointing to logistical challenges due to this year’s Ramadan festivities.

The General Secretary of NDC, Asiedu Nketiah has opined that they (NDC) will not allow the EC boss and her Deputy (Asare Bossman) to plunge this country into a civil war.

He said the NDC cannot remain quiet when there were attempts by the EC chair to manipulate the electoral data of Ghana to favour a particular candidate.

But to the NPP stalwart, these are simply moves by the opposition party to undermine the electoral body as an institution and its hierarchy, by dabbling in terminological inexactitudes.
