NDC picks Ahanta West Chairman to replace late Kwame Aboagye as parliamentary candidate

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in a unanimous decision, has picked the Constituency Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Okumi Andoh as the party parliamentary candidate for Ahanta West in the Western Region.

The party in the Ahanta West elected late the George Kwame Aboagye as their 2020 parliamentary candidate in 2019 but he unfortunately met his untimely death on February 3, 2020.

Per the party's constitution, Article 52, the party has to meet and pick someone to replace him (late George Kwame Aboagye) ahead of the parliamentary elections slated for December 7, 2020. In view of that, NEC on Friday, May 8, 2020, picked Dr. Emmanuel Okumi Andoh to lead the party to recapture the seat.

The Ahanta West Constituency has been one of the swing areas which records votes for both governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The late George Kwame Aboagye was one time Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) under the President J. E. A. Mills administration.

He was also Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West in the Western Region between January 2013 and January 2017.

In a statement issued and signed by the Ahanta West NDC Constituency Secretary Isaac Simmons Bassaw stated that; "The party leadership in the constituency wishes to bring to the notice of party members, the public and the media that it has received official communication from the National Executive Committee through the Western Regional Secretariat about the official pronouncement of who replaces the late parliamentary candidate for the party, Hon. Dr George Kwame Aboagye under the party's constitution, Article 52".

"The Constituency Executive Committee in the Ahanta West Constituency duly announces to the constituents, public and all stakeholders most especially the Traditional authorities, religious groups, trade skills institutions, students groups, Teachers, transport institutions, business groups, fishermen and farmers, youth groups and all identifiable groups that the name officially selected to replace our late parliamentary candidate is Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Okumi Andoh, a former Acting Rector of Takoradi Technical University and who was until this release our Constituency Chairman", he added.
