NDC primaries: Tema Central falls for Carl Owuompesika

With barely four days to the parliamentary primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the race in the Tema Central constituency is becoming interesting, as aspirants put finishing touches to their campaigns.

Although party supporters anticipated a tough race between the three aspirants, it is emerging that one of them, Carl Owuompesika, has began winning majority of the delegates to his side.

Owuompesika, a Marketing consultant, has become the favourite of the delegates because of his policies for the party, ahead of the 2020 general elections.

He has vowed to win the seat for the NDC in 2020 if he is given the nod to lead them into the elections.

His message for the people is to strengthen the grassroots of the party and develop the human capital within the constituency.

Vans for the party

Outlining how to make the party strong at its base, Owuompesika disclosed that apart from strengthening party structures to the benefit of all members, he had secured funding for vans for the NDC branches.

He said the vans, which would be unveiled within the week, would work for the party and make the branches financially strong to cater for their operations.

“The vans will be displayed on 24th August for all to see,” Carl said as he addressed delegates and party supporters at Tema Community 8 on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

“I have what it takes to win the seat…I have researched into how we can recapture the Tema Central seat,” he added.

He promised to be guided by the constitution of the party and unite members by working with all party executives.

He said because he is “peaceful and law abiding” he did not involve party executives in his campaign to pave way for peace in the party.

He has also launched ‘Carl Care’, an initiative that will ensure the health and wellbeing of the aged and less endowed in the constituency are taken care of.

“Just last week an old woman was taken to the hospital under the Carl Care,” he added as he pledged to be a hardworking candidate and MP when voted for.

Speaking to XYZ News, some delegates said they were hopeful Carl would be able to lead them.

“Over the years, the party struggles to fund it’s activities at the constituency level because of financial constraints so once the buses are donated to the party, mobilising the grassroots for or victory won’t be difficult especially as we are in opposition,” Eden, a party supporter said.
