NDC propaganda secretary for Duayaw-Nkwanta defects to NPP

Duayaw-Nkwanta (B/A), Aug. 21, GNA - Mr Augustine Owusu-Ansah, Duayaw-Nkwanta propaganda secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday announced his defection to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Nana Forson led Tano North executives of NPP to formally introduced Mr Owusu-Ansah, 50, also the Brong-Ahafo Regional Commander of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), to the public during the inauguration of the Tano North District Assembly at Duayaw-Nkwanta. He claimed that about 250 supporters of NDC in the area had also defected to NPP.

Wearing an NPP T-Shirt depicting President Kufuor's portrait and mobbed by some NPP officials, supporters and sympathizers in the constituency Mr Owusu-Ansah told the Press in an interview that he had been an active member of NDC since the days of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) which was later "converted" into NDC as a democratic party in 1992.

As a propaganda secretary of NDC in those days some of us worked hand-in-hand with the traditional council in the quest for the Tano District capital to be sited at Duayaw-Nkwanta as far back as 1988 but surprisingly it rather went to Bechem.

We did not relent in our efforts to see Duayaw-Nkwanta gaining the status of a district capital. Ever since, I have remained solid behind the chiefs and elders in the town in both the 1992 and 1996 NDC constitutional rules but all to no avail, Mr Owusu-Ansah said.

"If what we fought for in a span of 20 years of PNDC/NDC rule could not materialized and President Kufuour's government has been able to make it possible in less than one-term-stay in office, then I see no reason why some of us, as a matter of principle, should not "branch" to follow NPP for more of such developmental projects instead of waiting for yet another turn of NDC government which would continue to discriminate in the sharing of the national cake", the former NDC Duayaw-Nkwanta Propaganda Secretary added.

Mr Owusu-Ansah said he has 12 children all of whom are qualified to vote for NPP, come December general elections.

Present at the function included Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister as well as traditional chiefs within the Tano North District.
