In the aftermath of Ghana’s recent general elections, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and Information Technology for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has spoken candidly about the party’s determination to safeguard its parliamentary seats.

Reflecting on their approach in an interview with Joy FM, Dr. Boamah highlighted how the painful lessons of the 2020 elections served as a foundation for their strategy in 2024.

According to Dr. Boamah, the 2020 elections were a turning point for the NDC. He recounted how the parliamentary outcome, which was meant to reflect the will of the people, was allegedly manipulated through collusion between the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Electoral Commission, and security agencies.

This, he said, not only altered the balance of power but also led to the tragic loss of eight lives.

“In 2020, the parliament was not a hung parliament; the parliament that Ghanaians voted for was altered by the NPP through manipulation and collaboration with the EC and security agencies, which led to the deaths of eight people and the loss of seats,” he stated, his voice laden with both frustration and resolve.

These events, he explained, left a deep scar on the party and its supporters. It was this memory that shaped the NDC’s approach to the 2024 elections.

Determined to avoid a repeat of history, the party entered the polls with heightened vigilance, strategic planning, and a renewed commitment to protect every parliamentary seat.

“We have come too far and were determined to protect every single seat because of our previous experience,” Dr. Boamah emphasized, highlighting the party’s unwavering stance.
