The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed an application at the Sekondi Takoradi High Court seeking to overturn an injunction stopping the party’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, Joana Cudjoe, from holding herself as such.

The application by the NDC comes at a time when the party is racing against time to secure Joana Cudjoe’s spot on the December 7 election ballot paper.

An Accra High Court had earlier dismissed an application by the NDC to stop the Electoral Commission from printing the ballots and the Notice of Poll for Amenfi Central over the eligibility of the party’s candidate.

A hearing for the application seeking to vacate the injunction is slated for November 7, 2024, at the Sekondi Takoradi High Court.

Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the wife of musician Keche Andrew, despite overwhelmingly winning the party’s parliamentary primary, saw some aggrieved members of the party filing a lawsuit to secure an interlocutory injunction against her candidature.

The party subsequently annulled the election result and conducted a fresh primary in Amenfi Central on September 8, 2024.

She once again emerged victorious, and her re-election, according to the party, rendered the initial contest irrelevant and reinforced her position as the duly elected candidate.

However, the EC later announced her disqualification from contesting in the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election, citing the interlocutory injunction tied to the earlier primary which was annulled.

The NDC, in its latest application, is demanding the restoration of Joana Gyan Cudjoe on the Notice of Poll and ballot papers for the Amenfi Central parliamentary election on December 7.
