Joseph Boakye Danquah, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Minnesota Chapter in the United States of America, has said the National Democratic Congress, NDC’s insatiable desire to win political power has always preceded their logical reasoning.
Mr Boakye Danquah says it is surprising how the opposition party is only made up of dishonest people.
Commenting on the botched December 17 referendum on Peace FM in Accra, the astute business cum politician insisted that the NDC’s petulant behavior must be exposed and condemned in no uncertain terms.
The former Subin parliamentary hopeful’s comments come on the heels of the NDC sabotaging the voting of MMDCEs along party lines.
In a televised speech on Sunday, the president said the referendum which was meant to decide on an amendment of Article 55 (3) of the Constitution to enable political parties to sponsor candidates during local level elections had been cancelled.
The president attributed the decision to the absence of “a durable national consensus” on the matter following consultations.
“There is empirical evidence that NDC in the initial stages agreed to campaign for a Yes Vote only for them to make a U-turn. These people cannot be trusted and they have proven to be a bunch of dishonest people,” Mr Boakye Danquah fumed.
While commending the president for suspending the referendum process, Mr Boakye Danquah argued that an entrenched provision in the constitution can never be reversed by a divided nation.
He further described as ridiculous and incoherent the argument that electing MMDCEs on party lines would polarize the local governance structure.
“If we don’t see anything wrong with electing our presidents and MPs on party lines what stops us from electing MMDCEs on the ticket of political parties?
“This hypocrisy must stop! In any case what is this animal called nation level? For the records, all elections are organized at the district level before it is collated for us to declare winners and through that the president and MPs are elected,” he stressed.
He, however, lauded President Akufo-Addo for the decision to suspend the process, adding that, without a national consensus the referendum would be an exercise in futility.
