-Krowor MP, LEKMA accused

Some market women at the Nungua market have accused authorities of the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament for Krowor, Quaye Kumah, of acts of commissions and omissions that are sabotaging the development of the area.

Naomi Marquaye, Ntaase Krowey, Regina Kwandahor, and their colleagues are particularly angry at the decision by the LEKMA to remove gates fixed at the entrances to the market by Nii Ayikoi Otoo, NPP Parliamentary Candidate, to provide security for the market.

They are worried that even though the main agents of development in the area have failed to attend to their developmental challenges, they always put impediments in the ways of others who want to promote development.

Naomi Marquaye, Market Queen at the Nungua market, attributes this unfortunate development to needless and unproductive tribalism and partisanship.

Interacting with the media Friday, Madam Marquaye recounted what may be described as a very “bizarre anti-development agenda” recently executed by authorities of the LEKMA.

According to her, traders at the Nungua market for a long time had remained targets of all manners of attack, including stealing and rape, as a result of absence of light and gates at the entrances into the market.

She lamented that persistent appeals to the Assembly and the MP for light and gates were treated with contempt.

The Market Queen said after all their appeals had failed, they made a request to Nii Ayikoi Otoo, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Krowor, through his wife who visited them at the market.

The former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, according to the women, came to their aid and provided light for the market. He again responded positively to another request for gates to be fixed at the three main entrances to the market.

Naomi Marquaye told the media they had the shock of their lives when guards of the LEKMA, led by one Seth Nakai Akai, recently stormed the market to remove the gates for no apparent reason, apart from the reason that they were fixed with resources provided by the Parliamentary Candidate of the opposition NPP.

The Market Queen called on the authorities in the area to eschew their anti-development tendencies and grow to appreciate the fact that development comes through concerted efforts, adding that it does not make sense to sacrifice the development of Nungua on the altar of needless partisanship and tribalism.

She also condemned the tendency by some people to describe others as “strangers” who not supposed to lead the area’s development effort, stressing that “strangers” are people who are used to develop every community.
