NDC says it would win Mfantseman West and East parliamentary Seats

Saltpond, May 24, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) said it would win the Mfantseman West and East parliamentary seats in the 2004 General Elections to make the "Professor Atta Mills factor" relevant in the district.

Mr Jacob Arthur, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman West said this at the delegates' conference of the Mfantseman West branch of the NDC to select a candidate to contest the December elections.

He said: "The ruling NPP is aware that the flagbearer of the NDC is a true citizen of Mfantseman district, so the party is making every effort to snatch the two seats from NDC and put Prof. Atta Mills to shame".

Mr Arthur appealed to NDC members to work harder to retain the two seats, since the NPP is determined to win them. Mr Arthur urged them to support Mr Jodjo Bruce Quansah, Editor of Ghana Palaver, who was elected to contest the Mfantseman West seat on NPP ticket.

Mr Arthur promised to offer financial and material support to the party to enable it retain the seats.

Dr Ato Quarshie, Central Regional Chairman of the NDC said the party would win all the 19 parliamentary seats in the Central Region because the NPP government had not been able to fulfil its promises to Ghanaians.

He recounted that the NDC won all the seats in 1992, and lost only four out of the 17 seats in 1996, adding that party did well in 2000 and would win massively in the December polls.

Mr Stephen Moore, Mfantseman West constituency chairman of the NDC, advised members to remain united now that the primaries to select a candidate was over so that the party could win the seat. He called on party supporters to intensify their mobilization drive to enable the NDC win the elections.
