Cape Coast, Dec.28, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday evening began to maintain the gains it made in the Central Region during the December 7 elections, as certified results of the presidential runoff trickle in.
In the Effutu constituency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has polled 12, 236 and Professor John Evans Atta Mills, 14,790 with 347 of the ballots cast rejected. On December 7, the NDC obtained 14, 508, as against 12, 992 by the NPP.
In the KEEA constituency, the NPP polled 18,105 as against the NDC's 28,640 with 803 votes rejected. On December 7, the NDC polled 24, 808 and the NPP 16, 929 votes.
The electorate in the Cape Coast constituency cast 39, 917 ballots for NDC while the NPP had 31, 521 votes as against 37,994 and 32,018 respectively on December 7. A total of 577 ballots were rejected in Sunday's election.
In the Agona East Constituency, the NDC had 16, 858 ballots cast in its favour as against 14, 702 polled by the NPP, while 523 ballots were rejected.
In the general election, the NDC had 15, 369 votes and the NPP 14, 002. The NPP, however, has retained its win in the Agona West constituency by winning 23,156 of the votes cast as against 22, 103 by the NDC, with 491 ballots rejected. On December 7, the NPP had 23,147 votes and the NDC 19, 735 ballots cast.
