NDC supporters advised to be humble

Akyem Gyadem (E/R), April 6, GNA - The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ahmed Baba-Jamal, has called on supporters of the National Democratic Congress to be humble and avoid pride and arrogance that led to the defeat of the New Patriotic Party in the last elections. He said after elections politics was over and what was left was for national development.

Mr Baba-Jamal urged supporters of both the NDC and the NPP to support the government to implement its development programmes since the success or failure of the programmes would affect all citizens of the country. He was speaking at Akyem Gyadem on Easter Monday where he presented relief items from the Eastern Regional Committee of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to the chiefs and people following a March 27 rainstorm that destroyed 150 houses. The roofs of two schools, the Catholic Church and the Mosque were ripped off and several electricity poles were damaged. The items donated included 1,000 mats, 30 bags of maize, 30 bags of rice, 30 packets of roofing sheets, 1,000 cups and four bales of second hand clothing.

Mr Baba-Jamal advised the committee, which would be responsible for the sharing of the items, to ensure that all the affected people are catered for, especially the vulnerable, who are not in a position to get roofing sheets to replace the damaged ones. The Eastern Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO, Mr Ransford Owusu-Boakye, appealed to the people to plant trees to serve as windbreaks. The Gyasehene of Akyem Gyadem, Nana Boakye Yiadom, appealed to the Deputy Regional Minister to have the road leading to the town rehabilitated and also to help ensure that power is restored to the town.
