The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday called on its branch executive members to adopt proactive measures in the drive to win more people into the party.

Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Organiser of the party, who made the call at an NDC forum at Ashaiman, said having identified its loopholes, the party had embarked on measures to ensure that the party won the 2004 elections.

As part of the measures the party had decided to reward hard working members at the national, district, branch and unit levels to get them committed to the party while plans were also under way to open a new register to re-register members.

''We know that there are a lot of NDC sympathisers, who are prepared to go along with the party but this time round, we want to see the card bearing members to enable us to know how to deal with them in our future plans,'' he explained. The forum was organised by the Ashaiman constituency of the party to enable the leadership to inform them on NDC programmes and activities as well as national events.

Mr Ampofo criticised the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for being insensitive to the plight of Ghanaians as it was going ahead to increase the price of utility services in spite of public outcry. He appealed to members of the party to be abreast with government policies to be in a position to educate the masses to make informed decisions and choices with a view to winning more people into the party.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, National Youth Organiser, said the NDC was pursuing a social democratic philosophy that was centre left. This places the human being at the centre of all activities. According to him but for the establishment of Ghana Education Trust Fund by former NDC government, tertiary education would have grounded to a halt. Ms Frances Asiam, National Women's Organiser, said the party intended to involve more women in its administration and called for a united front to make the intention a reality.
