Deputy Transport Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East, Mr. Daniel Nii Quartey Titus Glover has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of killing the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited

He claims the party while in government suffocated the state owned transport company and virtually turned it into their personal property.

In an interview with Accra-Fm on Monday, he said: “The NDC while in government made Metro Mass its property; anybody could troop in to use the transport system for his own interest without paying the debt. These are some of the reasons the Metro Mass Transit is gradually collapsing”.

The legislator indicated that, even while in opposition, his party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the time paid the state transport company whenever the party hired buses for political programmes citing instances where he used to pay for such services himself.

“Why do you alone hesitate not to pay the state transport company? He asked the leaders of NDC.

According to him, as minster he had on several occasions called Mr. Kofi Adams the National Organiser of the NDC to ask for the accumulated amount owed the MMT and underscored the need for them to settle their indebtedness but to no avail.

When asked steps government is taking to retrieve the money, he said the ministry is giving NDC the benefit of the doubt adding that, should the NDC refuse to pay, Metro Mass Transit can then apply any legal means available to retrieve the money.

The NDC owe MMT a sum of GH¢ 1.5 million but Mr. Titus Glover indicated that, the money could be useful to MMT in the maintenance of broken down vehicles and other things.
