The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed that his party will begin to campaign in Senior High Schools across the country as a way of soliciting for votes ahead of the 2020 general elections.

Akamba said the party will make sure its flagbearer, former President John Mahama, will enter schools to seek for the votes of the students who have attained the voting age.

Speaking on Power 97.9 FM midday news on Wednesday, the assertive NDC organizer said despite the act may be frowned on by the Ghana Education Service (GES), the NDC will go-ahead to do so because the floodgate has been opened by President Nana Akufo-Addo.

He observed that President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday has decided to campaign to students and they (NDC) will replicate same.

It will be recalled that the president was at Bolgatanga SHS in the Upper East region where he said Ghanaians should reject the NDC in 2020 because they had planned to scrap the free Senior High School policy.

Addressing the staff and students of the school as part of his 2-day working visit to that region, he said, "I know that there are people in this country who don’t want this policy, who have been campaigning against this policy. They are dreaming that they are going to come back to power to cancel the policy…I want them to know that they are not coming back to power, and the Free Senior High School policy has come to stay.”

“They still haven’t woken up from their dreams; they dreamt in 2016 that they were on course for victory. They did not know that the Ghanaian people were no longer interested in entrusting them with power. They still haven’t woken up from their dreams,” added Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, 13th August 2019.

But Akamba believes the president’s assertions meant he was in a campaign mood and stressed that he could have touted his achievements without campaigning against former President Mahama and the NDC in a school.

“When I went to Tempane Senior High School they [the NPP government] said I was doing politics in a school but today the president is seen campaigning in a senior high school…I am saying this on your radio station that we in NDC will start campaigning ins senior high schools,” Akamba posited.

He said nothing would stop them from campaigning in the schools because the NDC needs to expose the “lies” of the NPP to the students.

“We will tell them how we will better the Free SHS…We will tell them that president Mahama will build dormitories for them and they will not sleep in the open and be frustrated by bedbugs as we are seeing now,” he added.
