The current power crisis that has bedeviled the country in the last couple of years is as a result of the long periods of neglect by past governments, according to the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray Wednesday, Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito said the power crisis affects his daily life like any other Ghanaian.

He, however, added that Ghanaians should not be worried since the Mahama-led administration is working tirelessly to fix the problem permanently and not just manage it.

“Dumsor is an accumulation of the long period of neglect and I am happy that this government is trying to fix the problem,” General Mosquito said on Starr 103.5FM.

He added that Ghana must turn to thermal or coal energy since the country cannot develop any more hydro dam.

Ghana’s energy crisis has worsened in recent years, especially in the past few months, with the authorities blaming the situation on low water level in the Akosombo, Bui and Kpong dams, and also the lack of gas to power the country’s thermal plants.

Power Minister Dr. Kwabena Donkor has explained that the country is shedding close to 440 megawatts of power during off-peak periods and 650 megawatts during peak periods.
