Accra, March 6, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday reminded Ghanaians about the great courage, foresight and sacrifices made by the heroes of the country's struggle for independence and called for a rededication to that struggle and resistance of oppressors' rule with all their will and might.
It said it was through the heroes' selfless efforts that we could boast of the modest achievements chalked as a nation.
This was contained in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary, on the occasion of the country's 49th independence anniversary celebration.
"It is important to note that the same reactionary forces and their collaborators are still with us, albeit in different forms, and will continue to use more subtle but potent means of subverting our sovereignty and our right to self-determination for their selfish ends", he said.
Mr Nketia said since the price to pay for freedom was perpetual vigilance, "the NDC wishes to urge all Ghanaians to use this occasion of the 49th independence anniversary celebrations to rededicate themselves to the struggle to resist any oppressor's rule with our will and might forever more".
