Half Assini (W/R), May 16, GNA 97 The Police at Half Assini said on Monday that it would be an offence to hold demonstration in the district because the police had not received any notification as stipulated in the Public Act Order.

He said anybody or group of persons wishing to organise demonstration to give the police five days notice before the day for demonstration to avoid arrest and prosecution.

The Jomoro district Police commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police John Ferguson Dzineku, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on Sunday.

He said reports reaching him indicated that some supporters of one Mr George Williams Somia, who was among those vying for the position of District chief Executive for the area, have decided to demonstrate against the nomination of Mr Sylvester Nuamah Dadie.

The demonstration is to coincide with the arrival of President John Atta Mills in the district on May 17 as part of his tour of the Western Region.

Mr Dzineku said the police had not officially been informed of any demonstration and urged those planning the demonstration to stop in their own interest and follow the regulations governing it.

Speaking to the GNA at Half Assini, Mr Somia congratulated Mr Dadieh on his appointment and said he had never asked anybody or group of persons to demonstrate against Mr Dadie's nomination by the President as the DCE for the area.

He said he had no knowledge or hand in previous demonstrations or moves to sabotage Mr Dadieh's appointment and promised to cooperate with Mr Dadieh to enhance the development of the district.
