As part of efforts to intensify breast cancer education to help reduce the mortality rate, NDK Financial Service and the Trust Hospital has collaborated to conduct free screening exercises.
The move is part of the 'The Pink October' breast cancer awareness campaign. As part of the campaign, the team conducted a free breast cancer screening at the Osu market.
The Deputy Managing Director for NDK Financial Service, Kuorkor Ayisa said the decision to be part of the campaign is to help further decrease the number of women who lose their life as a result of the disease.
“We understand and are fully aware based on statistics that breast cancer is one of the major killers of women in the world. For us as in institution we don’t only give loans; we don’t just do investment but we also believe in investing in the people that we work with; investing in the community that we exist in,” Mr. Ayisa said.
He said the next screening exercise will be held in Dansoman and the head Office of NDK Financial services on October 17 and 19 respectively. The team, he added will then move to Tema branch of NDK Financial Service.
About 5,000 women are expected to be screened by the hospital at the end of the programme, said Dr. Partey Newman of the Well Woman Clinic of Trust Hospital. He said as part of the screening activities women will be given training that will aid them in conducting self-examination to detect early signs of breast cancer. This, he added will help reduce its mortality rate.
