Barring any last minute hitches, the National Democratic Party (NDP) is scheduled to hold its second national delegates’ conference this coming Saturday.
The party, which is an offshoot of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would witness not less than 2, 224 delegates from across all the 10 regions and constituencies in attendance.
It is scheduled to take place at the Accra International Trade Fair Centre on Saturday, April 30, 2016 under the theme ‘United for Change; Probity and Accountability’.
Acting General Secretary of the NDP, Mohammed Frimpong who confirmed the event to DAILY GUIDE said “its aim will be to galvanise the nation to a necessary change from the clique oligarchy of the Mahama NDC.”
390 delegates would be coming from the Ashanti Region while 120 would be coming from the Upper East Region with the remaining delegates from the regions as follows; Eastern 270, Volta 200, Brong Ahafo 220, Upper West 100, Western 210, Central 180, Greater Accra 314 and 220 from the Northern Region.
The programme which is expected to start at 8:30am and end at 12:50pm would witness the election of a flagbearer and national leaders to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
Even though it is not clear which individuals have put up their names for the various positions including flagbearer and executive leadership positions, whoever emerges flagbearer whether through election or popular acclamation would lead the NDP to the crucial 2016 general elections.
Apart from the flagbearer position which is up for grabs, other positions to be competed for are National Chairman and Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary and two Deputies, Youth leader and two Deputies, National Women’s leader and two Deputies and Communications Director and two Deputies.
The election is set to be supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Concession has been made to enable representatives of invited political parties to give solidarity messages in the course of the programme.
