The Employment and Social Welfare Minister, D. S Boateng has called on non-govt organisations (NGO's) to live up to their objectives to provide the rural and ruban poor with free basic aminities.

He stated that this when done will generate and sustain confidence in NGO'S as unit working for the development of the society and not for themselves.

Mr. Boateng made the call in a speech read on his behalf at the inauguration of the Charity Resources Management Projects new NGO in Accra worldwide for the provision of health care facilities accomodation and schools to support the government in rural and ruban development.

The minister also urged the public to support the new NGO since it is the only one which has the objective to develop agriculture as a source of employment in the country.

The government he said will be happy to assocaite with any NGO operating in the country with such laundable objectives. The Chief Executive of the Charity Resource Management Projects - Mr Kofi Adindra Gyamfi said his organisation is resolved to help salvage the country's socio-economic problems "by using resources at our disposal in accordance with a national programme of priorities."

He urged the public to give them the necessary co-operation in order to ensure that their objectives are achieved.

The General Secretary of the Kristo Asafo Mission (Christ Reformed Church) Mr. Festus Owusu Badu also called for a greater support for the NGO, so that more needy people can benefit from the projects.

Recently a government proposed bill to have NGO'S register under a council before operating drew sharp criticisms from the NGO's in the opuntry. Under the bill, the council can refuse to register an NGO if it is not satisfied among other things that the organisation is willing and able to work in in co-operation with any agency of state that the ministry of social welfare may direct.

On the contray, NGO say the bill aims at creating a framework if arbitrariness packed with government servants whose real purpose is the control of and interference with NGO activities
