NGO donates 10,000 dollars to School

Banda-Ahenkro (B/A),Oct.17, GNA - An Accra-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Pioneers Ghana, has donated 10,000 dollars for the construction of classroom blocks, teachers' bungalows and hostels for students at the Banda Community Senior Secondary School.

Okokyeredom Kwadwo Sito I, Omanhene of Banda Traditional Area in the Brong-Ahafo Region who announced this appealed to the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education and Sports to assist improve facilities at the school which begun in 1993.

Okokyeredom Sito was speaking at the celebration of "Fodwoo" Yam festival of the chiefs and people of the traditional area at the weekend.

He advised parents to take advantage of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) programme and enrol their children especially girls in school.

The Omanhene pointed out that the best legacy parents could offer their children was education, to enable them become employable and enhance their ability to think critically on issues and assess situations for the benefit of society.

He called on non-resident citizens to visit home regularly to assist in the development of their communities.

Mr. George Amanor-Kyeremeh, Wenchi District Director of Education assured the people that the Directorate would ensure the posting of national service personnel to the school.

He said efforts were being made to appoint an educationist to head the school and permanent teaching staff would undergo training to enhance their performance.
