Tamale, Jan 12, GNA - The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), a Tamale based non-governmental organisation, has expressed concern about the disturbances in Bimbilla and called on all parties in the chieftaincy dispute to resort to dialogue. In a statement issued and signed by its Regional Programmes Coordinator, Mr Abubakari Iddrisu Saeed, the NGO urged all those involved in disturbing the prevailing peace in the Northern Region to desist and use dialogue and appropriate channels to resolve their differences.

FOSDA, which is involved in the capacity building of African institutions in the fields of human security and development, noted that in several of the conflicts in the region, illicit weapons were used and called on individuals who possessed weapons illegally and use them to disturb the peace to surrender them to the security agencies. "The Northern Region is now tired of conflicts as they reverse the clock of development and also taint the image of the region.'' ''These conflicts have deprived the region the much-needed development as money and other resources meant for development are rather used to maintain peace."

The NGO appealed to the security agencies in the region to be firm and decisive and rid the area of illicit weapons that the people have always use to perpetrate violence and conflicts.
