Ho, March 22, GNA-Mr Livinus Acquah-Jackson, Executive Director of New Seed International (NSI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Ho, on Monday called on the Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) to rescind its decision to recommend to government to legalise prostitution in the country.
He said apart from negating the country's cultural and traditional values, legalising prostitution would tend to legitimise several forms of criminal behaviour associated with prostitution.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Mr Acquah-Jackson said the value of womanhood in the country was a pride that needed to be protected and legalising prostitution would amount to "having sex anywhere".
He said experience had shown that rather than stemming the spread of HIV/AIDS, legalising prostitution would instead promote the spread of the disease.
Mr Acquah-Jackson called for the establishment of community counselling units throughout the country to help the youth to overcome frustration and other problems that compel them to resort to prostitution as a form of employment.
